Grannies Gone Wild!

"Help is on the way, dear!"

Though this clan of grans couldn't guarantee they were useful for anything other than public embarrassment, some of the senior Yarroweyah Netball girls (and a Dean... with sock boobs) gave the Barooga Sporties their best on Saturday the 9th of February for the annual bonding trip!

In the weeks prior, the girls raided their local thrift stores and their nan's wardrobe (except Emily, she had hers already in her wardrobe, super lucky!), and gathered in public parks awaiting the bus much to the public's amusement. The heat, though a killer, was no match for these old gals who were flattered by the old men's comments at the club, and Dean was quickly becoming the star of the show with his lipstick-smothered beard, pantyhose and walker which came in handy to wheel our food and drinks, and the occasional grandma when she became too tired from all the dancing. (<- Who's dad is this? Anyone?)

We, played rounds of Charades, Heads' Up, and rock 'n' rolled to the Nutbush and the Macarena before hitting the big virtual reality screens for some absolutely terrible attempts at sports. Whilst on the dancefloor, these vision-challenged grannies sighted the man himself, Peter Chisnell, looking either amazed or terrified (still unsure) at the hoard of wild grandmas making their way towards him to say hello and meet his lovely wife, Helen. What an introduction. Our beloved Chissa was quoted having been warned from reception staff about a bunch of grannies on the loose, before he endearingly stated,

"I bet that's my girls... Oh no..."

We proceeded to make our way into Nineteen81 for some bonding time with each other, walking like a parade of movie stars through clouds of clapping bistro-eaters, where we commenced the taking of awkward family photos in full view of all the confused clubbers, who may have begun to question their levels of sobriety when we walked in and graced them with our presence. I bring to you, a small collection of Yarroweyah Netballers Awkward Family Photos for 2024...

In conclusion to what was a very successful night for the senior netballers, we as a club value each and every player. Our netball teams for 2024 consist of a variety of people across different ages, nationalities and skillset, and we couldn't be prouder of these women. If you're looking for a club that values you as an individual, can laugh and have fun together and accepts everybody just as they are (bonus points if you're a terrible dancer, you'll fit right in!), you've found your club. Keep an eye on our social media for updates on further social events throughout 2024!
